Indian tennis star Sania Mirza, playing the last Grand Slam of her career, has lost in Round-2 of the Australian Open’s Women’s Doubles category. However, she is not out of the tournament yet. Now she will play the round of 16 match of mixed doubles category with Rohan Bopann late on Sunday night.
On the other hand, in the women’s singles of the first Grand Slam of the year going on in Melbourne, the world’s No. 1 tennis player Iga Svyantek became the victim of an upset. Besides her, Koka Gauff was also knocked out in the second round.
Mirza-Danilina pair lost in 2 hours
On Day 7 of the first Grand Slam of the year, Indian star Sania Mirza, along with her partner Ana Danilina, were upset in the second round. The Indo-Kazakh 8th seed pair went down 4-6, 6-4, 2-6 to the unseeded pair of Belgium’s Alison Van Uitvank and Ukraine’s Anhelina Kalinina. This fight lasted for about 2 hours.
Sania Mirza and Ana Danilina had entered the women’s doubles second round after defeating the Hungarian-American pair of Dalma Gulfi and Bernarda Pera.

Mirza-Bopanna face Behr-Makoto
Mirza is playing in the mixed doubles category paired with Rohan Bopanna. Six-time Grand Slam champion Sania Mirza will face the pair of Ariel Behr and Makoto Ninomiya in the round-16.
The Indian pair, semi-finalists at the Rio Olympics, on Saturday beat wild card pair of Australia’s Jamie Fourlis and Luke Saville 7-5, 6-3 in one hour and 14 minutes. Bopanna-Mirza had won the mixed doubles title at the 2017 French Open. Mirza has won the mixed title of Australian Open in 2009 with Mahesh Bhupathi.
There were two upsets in the women’s singles category on Sunday morning as Swintek and Gough lost. In the first, world No. 1 tennis star Iga Svantek and Coco Gauff were eliminated after losing in the fourth round. Top seed Polish star Swiatek was defeated by Kazakhstan’s Alina Rybakina in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. At the same time, Coco Gauff of America was defeated by Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia 7-5, 6-3.
