According to the Hindu calendar, Sankashti Chaturthi fast is observed every month on the Chaturthi Tithi of Krishna Paksha. Let us tell you that Lord Ganesha is the lord of Chaturthi Tithi. According to the Hindu calendar, there are two Chaturthi in every month. The Chaturthi of Krishna Paksha that comes after the full moon is called Sankashti Chaturthi. The Chaturthi of Shukla Paksha that comes after the new moon is called Vinayaka Chaturthi. Every month Sankashti Chaturthi is celebrated on the fourth day of Krishna Paksha. This time Chaturthi falling in Krishna Paksha of Margashirsh month is falling on 23rd November (Tuesday) i.e. today. On this day, Vighnaharta Shri Ganesh ji is worshiped according to the law and fast is kept.

  • Margashirsha month Krishna Paksha Chaturthi closing – 24 November 2021 (Wednesday) till 12:55 pm.
  • Moonrise time – November 23 (Tuesday) at 8.27 pm.

Significance of Sankashti Chaturthi Vrat

Lord Shri Ganesha removes all the troubles of his devotees, that is why he is known as Vighnaharta or the destroyer of obstacles. Lord Shri Ganesh is the first worshipper, by worshiping him all the obstacles are removed. Chaturthi date is considered to be of special importance for their worship. The Sanskrit meaning of Sankashti is the loser of trouble or freedom from obstacles and unfavorable times. Sankashti Chaturthi is considered one of the most auspicious days to please Lord Ganesha. On this day Lord Shiva declared his son Ganesha as the best among all the gods.

Lord Ganesha is worshiped before beginning any ritual, or beginning of a new venture. He is also worshiped as the god of knowledge and is popularly known as Vighnaharta. It is believed that worshiping Gauri Ganesh brings positivity in life. Along with this, Ganpati Maharaj fulfills all the wishes by removing the calamities of his devotees in a moment.
