Following the lapse in the security of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union Home Ministry has increased the security of Union Ministers along with Bharatiya Janata Party leaders on the basis of inputs received from Punjab. The security of Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, who is also BJP’s election in-charge, has been increased to Z+. The security of Somprakash, MP from Hoshiarpur and Minister at the Center has also been increased.
Security agencies have expressed apprehensions that BJP central leaders working in Punjab elections may be in danger. After this threat, the Ministry of Home Affairs has strengthened the security cover of the Union Ministers by doing Z plus in the first phase. Earlier, leaders from different parties joining BJP have also been provided central security. The Center has given Y and Z security to the leaders of Punjab who left the Congress and joined the BJP.
One of the reasons for giving Z plus security is also believed to be that there is still fury due to the farmers’ movement. In such a situation, such a decision has been taken so that the BJP should not take any aggressive stand against the leaders. Recently, some such incidents have also come to the fore, which posed a challenge to the security of BJP leaders.
They have also been given Y and Z security.
Qadian MLA and younger brother of Congress MP Pratap Singh Bajwa, Fatehjung Singh Bajwa, who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party from Congress on December 28, has been provided Y+ category security. Fatehjung Singh Bajwa has been provided security by the Union Home Ministry on inputs of a possible security threat from central intelligence agencies. The security of Bajwa has been given to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Recently, the central government has provided Z-category VIP security cover to former Punjab minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi. The security of former Shiromani Akali Dal leader and Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee chief Manjinder Singh Sirsa has also been increased by the Center to Z. He too had joined the BJP in December 2021.
