Udaipur/ New Delhi:

Former Union Finance Minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram has said that the condition of the Indian economy is in a “very worrying” phase and the pace of recovery in the economy has become very slow after the Kovid epidemic. Addressing the press in Udaipur on the second day of Congress’s three-day Chintan Shivir, Chidambaram said inflation in the country has risen to unacceptable levels and this is due to wrong policies of the government.

Chidambaram said that the situation abroad has increased the pressure on the economy, but the central government seems ignorant about the measures to deal with these developments. He said that keeping in view the global and domestic developments, it has become necessary to consider the re-framing of economic policies.

He also talked about a comprehensive review of the financial relations of the Centre-States and said that the time has come for this too. The former Finance Minister said that the financial condition of the states has never been so delicate before. However, he said that there is no fear of Sri Lanka-like situation here. Chidambaram said that despite the Modi government’s efforts to repress, the democratic process is going on here and we will be able to deal with the economic challenges.

On the ban on export of wheat, the Congress leader said that the yield of wheat is more or less the same and has not decreased. Despite this, the government has banned its export, which is an anti-farmer move. He alleged that the Modi government has not been one to work in the interest of farmers.

When asked about the ban on export of wheat, he said, “I believe that the central government has failed to procure enough wheat. This is an anti-farmer move. I am not surprised because this government has never been farmer friendly.

Chidambaram said that like BJP was in Shining India Mode in 2003-04, similarly Modi Government is also in Shining India Mode. He asked that in 2013, Narendra Modi had said that when our government is formed, the dollar will be of 40 rupees, so what happened to it. He said that Sushma Swaraj had also said this in many meetings, but it is a flaw in her policies, due to which the rupee has fallen to 77.42 against the dollar.

P Chidambaram expressed grief over the death of 28 people in Delhi fire and said that the entire Congress party expresses its condolences to the victims. In response to a question related to the Gyanvapi Masjid, he said that the status quo of places of worship across the country should be maintained.
