Prithvi Shaw Selfie Controversy: Social media ‘influencer’ Sapna Gill has given a complaint to the Mumbai Police, seeking registration of an FIR against Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw and others for alleged molestation.
Last week, Gill and some others were arrested in connection with the attack on Shaw after an altercation over taking selfies at a suburban hotel. On Monday, a magistrate court granted bail to Gill.
The complaint, filed through Gill’s lawyer Kashif Ali Khan on Monday at Andheri’s airport police station, sought registration of an FIR against Shaw, his friend Ashish Yadav and others for alleged molestation and outraging modesty.
According to Gill’s complaint, Gill and his friend Shobhit Thakur regularly frequented the club, where Thakur spotted Shaw, who was partying with friends and was allegedly inebriated. The complaint alleged that Being a cricket fan, Thakur approached Shaw for a selfie, which was objected to.
As per the complaint, “Thakur is a juvenile. He was not aware of the vandalism of drunken people. Thakur was helpless and was not able to save himself. Therefore, he (Gill) intervened and tried to save Thakur from Shaw and others.”
The complaint claims that Gill pleaded with Shaw, who was “intoxicated” at the time. Gill’s complaint alleged that Shaw outraged her modesty, an offense punishable under section 354 (molestation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and other provisions.
