Senior Congress leader Sunil Jakhar has suddenly announced to quit the party. Due to which the oldest party of the country has suffered a major setback. After Jakhar left the party, there was a wave of shock in the top leadership of the party. During a Facebook Live ‘Dil Ki Baat’, Jakhar made the announcement and said, “Goodbye and best wishes Congress.”
Jakhar’s departure comes at a time when the grand old party is busy with its mega brainstorming conference, “Chintan Shivir” in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Expressing unhappiness over the party’s action against its alleged anti-party activities, the senior Congress leader also referred to the statement of Rajya Sabha MP Ambika Soni. Sunil Jakhar also claimed that Soni misled Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi not only in Punjab but also in other states.
In his 35-minute long video, Sunil Jakhar accused the Congress high command of only listening to a certain leader of Punjab in the matter of appointing the chief minister after Captain Amarinder Singh’s inexplicable exit. Besides this, he also expressed his anger and dissatisfaction over his expulsion from party posts, despite his family being associated with the old party for almost 50 years.
The three-time MLA and one-time MP also took a dig at the ongoing three-day Chintan Shivir, saying it was all a “tamasha” and the leaders attending the event were “cheerleaders”. Besides this, Jakhar launched scathing attacks on leaders including Harish Chaudhary, former state in-charge of the party Harish Rawat and Tariq Anwar.
On the other hand, he was heard praising Rahul Gandhi, calling him “a good man” and urging him to take the reins of the party further.
Significantly, Sunil Jakhar had removed the Congress tag from his Twitter bio even before it went live and removed all references as well as the party flag from his Twitter handle.
