New Delhi, PTI. Serum Institute of India (SII) has urged the government to speed up the movement of the anti-Covid-19 vaccine Kovishield. Official sources said on Sunday that the Serum Institute says that due to the increasing stock of Kovidshield, the production of anti-Covid vaccines and cold chain space planning are facing difficulties. According to the report of news agency PTI, the Serum Institute has a stock of 24,89,15,000 doses of the Kovidshield vaccine, which is increasing every day.

An official source quoted Prakash Kumar Singh, Director of Government and Regulatory Affairs at SII, as saying – We need to plan our production/cold chain space/human resources to meet our domestic and global supply commitments. Prakash Kumar Singh, Director, Government and Regulatory Affairs, SII has recently informed the Union Health Ministry that it has a stock of 24,89,15,000 doses of the anti-Covid-19 vaccine, Covishield, which is increasing day by day. It is to be known that Pune-based firm Serum Institute of India (SII) supplies various life saving vaccines to EPI, UNICEF and various countries apart from Kovidshield vaccine. In such a situation, increasing the stock of vaccine is considered to be a really big problem for him.

Singh has said in a letter to the government that keeping in view the above facts and genuine difficulties as this matter is directly related to the availability of various other life saving vaccines in our country and the world… And request your intervention for the movement at the world level. The central government has allowed SII to export 5 million doses of Kovishield to Nepal, Tajikistan and Mozambique under the United Nations-backed COVAX global vaccine programme, the source said.
