The Bombay High Court on Tuesday granted bail to Indrani Mukerjea’s ex-husband and an accused in the Sheena Bora murder case, Sanjeev Khanna. Notably, Khanna has been lodged in Arthur Road Jail since 2015 for his alleged involvement in the murder of Sheena Bora.

A single bench of Bombay HC Justice Bharti Dangre granted bail to Sanjiv Khanna on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh and asked him to surrender his passport and not leave India without the court’s permission. Notably, this comes after the Supreme Court order last month granted bail to co-accused Indrani Mukerjea.

Significantly, with the Bombay HC granting bail to Khanna, all three accused including Peter Mukerjea (Indrani’s third husband) are out on bail.

Sheena Bora murder case

The CBI has been probing the Sheena Bora murder case since 2015 after taking over the case from the Mumbai Police. According to the case registered by the Mumbai Police, Sheena Bora was kidnapped and strangled to death in April 2012. Notably, the matter first came to the fore when Indrani’s driver Shyamvar Rai was arrested in August 2015 in another case. Later during investigation, he confessed to killing Sheena Bora in April 2012 and said that he dumped her body in Raigad district of Maharashtra. He also claimed that Sheena’s mother, Indrani and Sanjeev Khanna (Indrani’s ex-husband) were all implicated in the murder. Notably, the driver turned out to be a government witness in the Shyamvar case.

According to the CBI case in court, Indrani killed Sheena Bora because she was upset over the relationship between Sheena Bora, whom she had introduced to everyone as her sister, and Peter Mukerjea’s son from a previous marriage, Rahul Mukerjea.
