Centurion Shreyas Iyer, who made his strong Test debut against New Zealand, could not sleep well on Thursday night. He batted brilliantly throughout the day after taking his Test cap from the great batsman Sunil Gavaskar. When he returned after the stumps, he had a valuable 75 runs in his account and scored a record century on the second day. When the second day’s play of the Kanpur Test came to an end, Shreyas Iyer talked about last night.

He told Star Sports, ‘I was very happy the way everything went well on the first day. Couldn’t sleep well last night. I think I batted well yesterday, but today I had to focus on my batting again. Iyer further said – I was not able to sleep properly all night. Woke up at five o’clock this morning, but it’s a wonderful feeling when you score a century.

Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar gave him the Test cap before the start of the first day’s play. During this, Iyer told what the great batsman had told him. Iyer told about this – He (Sunil Gavaskar) inspired me a lot by giving me the cap, but one thing he told me, I will always remember. He had said – don’t think too far and just enjoy yourself.
