Climate change is increasing domestic violence against women. This revelation has come from a recent study. The study said that after extreme weather events such as floods, droughts, hurricanes, there has been an increase in cases of violence against women and girls as well as sexual abuse.

The research, published in The Lancet Planetary Health Journal, covered five continents. Sarah, a scientist at Simon Fraser University who conducted the research, said, ‘When we think about the effects of climate change, there are some hard things to remember. But there are also some other hidden consequences, which are not easily visible or they are not easily studied. These include gender-based violence.

Climate change increases inequality among people

Five research related to sub-Saharan Africa revealed that there has also been an increase in cases of physical abuse, child marriage, dowry violence and female-murder due to drought.

Violence escalates due to factors such as economic distress, social instability, poor environment and stress. A research also found that new mothers were more than eight times more likely to be beaten by men after Hurricane Katrina.
