World number one shuttler Tai Tzu Ying was moved to tears after she revealed that Indian star PV Sindhu had cheered her at the medal distribution ceremony after she lost in the women’s singles final.

Tai Tzu, playing in her third Olympics, finally managed to win a medal. She had to settle for a silver medal after going down 18-21, 21-19, 18-21 to Chen Yu Fei of China in the final.

Sindhu had won a silver medal at the Rio Olympics five years ago after losing to Spain’s Carolina Marin and the Indian knew how the world number one felt.

Tai Tzu wrote in his post on Instagram, “After the match, I was satisfied with my performance. Later Sindhu came and hugged me. She told me, ‘I know you are uncomfortable and you played very well but today was not your day. After this he filled me in his arms and said that he is aware of this feeling.

He said, “This kind of encouragement brought tears to my eyes. I was really sad because I worked really hard. Thanks again for your cooperation and encouragement. Thanks for supporting me. ,

Tai Tzu defeated defending world champion Sindhu 21-18, 21-12 in the semi-finals on Saturday. Sindhu won the bronze medal by defeating He Bing Jiao of China.
