New Delhi:

Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan has got a big relief from the Supreme Court. The court has granted him interim bail in the land grab and swindle case. This bail has been given using the privilege under Article 142. At the same time, instructions have also been given to file a regular bail petition in the trial court in two weeks. Interim bail will continue till the decision on regular bail.

The Supreme Court said that in view of the peculiar facts of the case, interim bail is being given. Azam Khan is lodged in Sitapur jail since February 2020. Earlier on Tuesday, the Supreme Court had reserved the decision on the interim bail plea of the SP leader.

The UP government had told the court, “The investigating officer of the petitioner’s case was also threatened. Even when Azam Khan’s statement was being recorded, the investigating officer was threatened. I demand quashing of FIR. They are land mafia and habitual criminals.”

On the other hand, citing the Arnab case, it was said in the court that there were similar cases in that case, but FIRs are registered against Azam in different cases. At the same time, Azam’s lawyer Kapil Sibal said that since the last two years, Azam is in jail, so where does the talk of intimidation come? UP government is making his client a victim of political malice

In the last hearing, the court had expressed surprise that when bail was granted in all the cases, then how was a new case registered against Azam. Is this just a coincidence or something else? The UP government should file a reply on this. The Supreme Court had also expressed displeasure over the non-compliance of the decision on the bail of SP leader Azam Khan.

Sibal said that after the court had reserved the order on the bail plea, the decision has been kept pending for a long time. What will the Supreme Court hear if it gives its verdict?
