Madrid, AP. With Spain without tennis legend Rafael Nadal to defend his title in the Davis Cup finals, all eyes will be on 18-year-old Carlos Alcarez. Nadal is not playing in this tournament due to a left leg injury.

Alcarez will be the center of attraction when Spain takes to the court against Ecuador on Friday. Spain will try to regain the title in two years. This tournament was not organized in 2020 due to the corona virus epidemic.

Alcarez will play in Davis Cup for the first time. He is accompanied by Pablo Carreo Busta and Albert Ramos. Both of them are 10 years older than Alcarez. Alcarez was not even born when the fourth member of the team, 40-year-old Feliciano López, started playing on the ATP Tour.

Vijay Amritraj to continue as TNTA president

Chennai, Pretr. Indian tennis great Vijay Amritraj will continue as the President of Tamil Nadu Tennis Association (TNTA) for the next three years. He was recently elected unanimously as the President at the 95th Annual General Meeting of TNTA. Amritraj will continue in this post till 2024. He became the chairman of TNTA in September 2018. Many tournaments will be played before Australian Open

Melbourne, AP. Several other events including the ATP Cup and Sydney Tennis Classic will be held in January ahead of the Australian Open tennis tournament. Tennis Australia said on Thursday that the ATP Cup team tournament will be held in Sydney from January 1 to 9. This will be followed by the Sydney Tennis Classic tournament in which men and women will participate.

The Serbian team won the first ATP Cup in 2020, while in 2021 it was held in February in which Russia was victorious. Then only 12 teams took part in it due to Kovid-19 restrictions. In addition, two weeks of men’s and women’s competitions will be held at the Memorial Drive Tennis Center in Adelaide. Melbourne Park will host three events before the Australian Open qualifying begins. These include two tournaments of WTA 250 and one tournament of ATP 250 which will be held from January 3 to 9. The Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tournament of the year 2022, will be played at Melbourne Park from January 17 to 30.
