New Delhi:

BJP president JP Nadda on Saturday termed as “historic” the government’s decision to cut excise duty on petrol and diesel to provide relief to the people and demanded that states ruled by opposition parties also reduce taxes for the benefit of the people. Take the cut. Nadda said in a statement that in November last year, the Center had cut excise duty on petrol by Rs 10 and diesel by Rs 5, while BJP-ruled states cut Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel. But opposition parties did not, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi underlined in his meeting with chief ministers last month.

Modi had pointed out the significant difference between BJP-ruled and non-BJP-ruled states, citing fuel prices in various states. How sensitive is it. He said that this also shows how the Modi government is working to make people’s lives easier.

The BJP President also appreciated the government’s decision to give a subsidy of Rs 200 on each gas cylinder to the beneficiaries of the Ujjwala scheme. The government today announced reduction of excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per liter and on diesel by Rs 6 per liter to give relief to consumers from the high fuel prices.
