New Delhi, ANI. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to give a big gift to Tamil Nadu today. PM Modi will inaugurate 11 new Government Medical Colleges in Tamil Nadu. Apart from this, Modi will also inaugurate the new campus of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil (CICT) in Chennai. This entire program will be done through video conferencing.
4 thousand crores cost
11 new government medical colleges have been built at a cost of about Rs.4000 crore. Out of this, an amount of about Rs 2,145 crore has been given by the Central Government while the rest of the amount has been given by the State Government. Medical colleges are coming up in Virudhunagar, Namakkal, Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Tiruvallur, Nagapattinam, Dindigul, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Ramanathapuram and Krishnagiri districts.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) informed that the setting up of a new campus at Chennai (CICT) is in line with the Prime Minister’s vision to protect, preserve and promote classical languages of Indian heritage. The CICT campus has been built by the Central Government at a cost of 24 crores.
MBBS seats increased by 79.60 percent in 7 years
The PMO said that in the last seven years, there has been an increase of 79.60 percent in ABBS seats in the country. MBBS seats have increased from 51,348 to 92,222. At the same time, there has been a jump of 80.70 percent in PG seats. PG seats have increased from 31,185 to 56,374. The PMO said that before 2014, the medical seats in the country were around 82,500. During this, medical seats have increased by 80 percent i.e. 66 thousand. Apart from this, the number of medical colleges (government and private) in the country has increased to 596.
