Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has said that it will come out with a consultation paper to further strengthen digital inclusion. In this, special emphasis will be given on three major aspects of devices, connectivity and literacy.
On the sidelines of the ‘India Digital Summit 2023’ organized by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), TRAI Chairman PD Vaghela said that a consultation paper on the issue could be released in the coming months.
The consultation paper is expected to focus on three key aspects – devices, connectivity and literacy.
“We are planning to come out with a consultation paper to further strengthen digital inclusion in the country,” Vaghela said at the event, but did not reveal any other details.
The importance of this step is because at this time the public is considering the prices of 5G equipment to be more expensive. On the other hand, preparations are underway to rapidly implement the next generation network across the country on a large scale.
5G services were started in the country on October 1, 2022 and within 100 days these services have been started in more than 200 cities.
The TRAI chief also highlighted the major challenges in the path of digitisation. These challenges include revamping of digital governance infrastructure, challenges arising from convergence and investment cycle shortening due to technological disruptions.
He said that there is a need to focus more on creating an ecosystem for innovation where these digital public tools can be used to solve socio-economic problems.
“We need to create our own unique model of digital innovation focused on solving socioeconomic issues, unlike the models popular in other developed countries,” Vaghela said.
