Every year this day is celebrated as Constitution Day. In the year 2015, the Government of India declared 26 November as Constitution Day (samvidhan divas). Since then Constitution Day started being celebrated on 26 November. India formally adopted the constitution on 26 November 1949. On 26 January 1950, the Constitution was implemented in the country. Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar has played the most important role in making the constitution of our country.
After independence, a committee was constituted by the Constituent Assembly and this committee was entrusted with the responsibility of drafting the constitution. The chairman of this committee was Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. The Constituent Assembly was established in the year 1946. At the same time, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar completed the draft of the Indian Constitution in the year 1948 and presented it in the Assembly. It was adopted on November 26, 1949, after making some amendments to the constitution.
The constitution of our country was written by hand and it took 2 years 11 months and 18 days to make it. The constitution of our country is the longest written constitution in the world. The constitution of our country has been made with the help of the constitutions of America, Germany, Ireland, UK, Australia, Canada and Japan.
