The ED (Enforcement Directorate) has arrested TMC leader (Trinamool Congress) Saket Gokhale in an alleged money laundering case related to crowdfunding. Saket is already lodged in a Gujarat jail in a forgery case.

According to sources, the ED will file an application in the Ahmedabad Metro Court for the remand of the TMC leader. If the ED gets the remand, Gokhale will be taken to its Ahmedabad office for questioning.

Ahmedabad Cyber ​​Crime Branch had arrested Saket Gokhale from Delhi on December 30 last year in connection with alleged misappropriation of funds raised through crowdfunding. A case has been registered against them under IPC sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating) and 467 (forgery).

An FIR was lodged against Gokhale following a complaint filed by a citizen of Ahmedabad, who claimed to have donated Rs 500 to Gokhale through online mode.

Police said that “it is not just Rs 500 that is the issue as the TMC leader allegedly collected over Rs 70 lakh from over 1,700 people through the platform ‘Our Democracy’ and used that money for personal needs. ”

Gujarat HC denies bail to Saket Gokhale

Earlier on Monday, the Gujarat High Court refused to grant bail to TMC leader Saket Gokhale in the crowdfunding fraud case. Also asked them to approach the court after the charge sheet is filed.

High Court judge Sameer Dave said, “We will consider the petition only after the charge sheet is filed.”

Gokhale was recently denied bail by a magistrate court and sessions court in Ahmedabad, following which he approached the Gujarat High Court.
