KL Rahul’s father Dr. KN Lokesh was a fan of Sunil Gavaskar. They wanted to name their son after him. At that time the name of Gavaskar’s son Rohan Gavaskar was in discussion. When KN Lokesh was asked the name of the son, Rahul came out of his mouth by mistake instead of Rohan. In such a situation, his name became KL Rahul.

KL Rahul’s father is a professor in the civil engineering department of NIT (National Institute of Engineering, Karnataka). His mother was also a professor at Mangalore University. Rahul completed his high school from NITK English Medium School and Pre-University from St. Aloysius College, Bangalore. Later, he started studying at Jain University in Bangalore, so that he could concentrate fully on cricket.
Rooted 2 double centuries in 12 years
Rahul joined the cricket academy at the age of 10. After two years he started playing with 2 clubs. At the age of 12, Rahul scored two double centuries for Karnataka in the under-13 inter-zonal tournament. He was later part of the Under-13, Under-15, Under-17, Under-19 and Under-23 teams for Karnataka. At the age of 18, Rahul was selected in the Indian team for the Under-19 World Cup.
In the same year, he also got a chance to play for the Ranji team of Karnataka. He made his debut against Punjab. He was not included in the team the next season, but Rahul worked hard and returned to the Karnataka Ranji team in 2012–13 and in that season he played 5 matches and scored 400 runs at an average of 50. In the 2013–14 domestic season, he scored 1,033 first-class runs, the second-highest scorer in that season.
Joined IPL team RCB in 2013
Rahul joined the IPL franchise RCB in 2013 as a wicket-keeper batsman. His first season was not special. The next year he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for 1 crore. He played 11 matches and scored 166 runs.
In the 2016 season, he was again bought by RCB, then Rahul scored 397 runs in the IPL season. Rahul could not play the 2017 season due to a shoulder injury.

Team India’s debut cap in 2014
Rahul made his debut for Team India in Melbourne in 2014. The Boxing-Day Test gave him the debut cap by Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Rahul joined the team in place of Rohit Sharma. He scored his first international century (110 runs) while opening with Murali Vijay in the Sydney Test.
First batsman to score century in debut match in ODI
KL Rahul was included in the ODI squad for the tour of Zimbabwe in 2016. Made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club. Rahul (100 *) scored a century in his first innings. He remained not out after scoring 100*. He became the first batsman to do so. He was adjudged Man of the Series. After this, he also made his T20 debut against Zimbabwe.
