New Delhi, Lifestyle Desk. Travel Tips: If you’re planning a trip to America for the first time, you’ll be excited, no? However, it requires a lot of planning and paperwork. There are many documents to be filed, funds, travel itinerary to be made, ticket and hotel booking, preparation to read about the place etc.

When you are planning to move to the US, you need to start preparing in advance. That’s why it is better that you start preparing for it months in advance so that many things are resolved before boarding the plane and what things have to be taken care of while landing there.

1. Apply for US Visa

First you have to apply for US Visa. Apply online and select your visa type, such as Business/Tourist Visa. Complete the form DS-160 which is the Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application Form. Then pay the visa fee online. At this stage, you will need to schedule two appointments through your online profile. One at the Visa Application Center (VAC) for your biometric test and the second at the US Embassy for your visa interview.

2. What documents to keep with you

Carry your passport while going to the airport and always carry it with you. This is the easiest and accepted method of identification. Remember that your passport must be valid for six months after your stay in the USA. When you land, the immigration checkpoint may ask to see the documents that helped you get the visa, so take them.

3. Pack Smartly and Carry Less Luggage

Pack only what you will need. Make a checklist of the things you will need during the trip. A pair of sports shoes is enough, especially if you go to the beach. Carry travel friendly sunscreen and other cosmetics. Don’t carry too many bags, you will find it difficult to carry them. Keep documents, medicines and light woolens in the hand bag. If you will be shopping in America, then keep a place for that too, so that you do not have to pay for extra baggage at the airport.

4. Check the weather at the time of travel

America is a very big country, so the temperature varies everywhere. If you go to Texas in the month of May, then the weather will be hot there, while if you go to Chicago during the same time, then the weather will be very cold. Read about the weather thoroughly and pack accordingly.

5. Use local transport

When you reach America, travel like a local. Metro connectivity will be available in most of the cities here. You can buy smartcards for Metro and Metrobus. You can also book Uber for the areas where the metro does not go.

6. Sight-seeing

Wherever you are going, research the places to visit and make a list. You will not be able to visit all the places, so choose the places according to your liking. For example, if you are going to San Francisco, then definitely visit the Golden Gate Bridge there. If you are a seafood lover, then definitely visit Fisherman’s Waugh.
