Agartala/Kolkata, Agencies. Assembly elections are due in Tripura in May 2023. Earlier, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said on Saturday that he has submitted his resignation to Governor SN Arya. Deb made the announcement after meeting the Governor at the Raj Bhavan here. Senior BJP leader Bhupendra Yadav said that the MLAs are meeting on Saturday evening to choose the next chief minister.

Organization Responsibility

Deb told reporters that the party is at the top. I am a loyal worker of BJP. I hope I have done justice to the responsibilities given to me – be it the BJP state president or Tripura chief minister. I have worked for holistic development to ensure peace for the people of Tripura state. He said that the 2023 election is coming. The party wants a responsible person to take charge of the affairs here. Government can be formed only when the organization is strong. Obviously someone will become the chief minister after the election.

Deb met the central leadership

Deb had gone to New Delhi on Thursday and met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda to discuss the party’s affairs in the northeastern state. The outgoing Chief Minister said that the party wants me to work to strengthen the organization. He said that people want BJP government here for a long time. If someone like me works for the organization, obviously it will help.

discuss these names

Biplab Kumar Deb was appointed chief minister after the BJP came to power in 2018 ending 25 years of Left Front rule. There are reports of internal discord in the state unit of BJP. Sources said that Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, who belongs to the erstwhile royal family of Tripura, is likely to take charge on an interim basis. However, others also see Union Minister Pratima Bhowmik as a contender for the post. Assembly elections are due in the state next year.

On the new development, the Trinamool Congress said that Biplab Kumar Deb’s tenure in Tripura was marked by attacks on opposition workers and the killing of democracy. TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh quipped that Deb’s resignation marked the beginning of the end for the BJP in Tripura. TMC tweeted that goodbye and good salvation to the CM who failed thousands of people in Tripura!
