UP-STF and Maharashtra Police on Thursday arrested two miscreants from Sarnath area of Varanasi. Both were wanted in Mumbai for one and a half year in the case of attempt to murder by taking Rs 3 lakh. Both the miscreants have been identified as Rajkumar alias Lala Kushwaha of Hanuman Chowk in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh and Dheeraj Yadav, a resident of Pisari in Gaurabadshahpur area of Jaunpur district.
Rajkumar had also made his temporary base in Mumbai. Both the miscreants have been taken by Meera Bhayander Vasai Virar Crime Branch on transit remand.
The miscreants ran away thinking they were dead
UP-STF’s Varanasi unit’s Additional SP Vinod Kumar Singh said that in 2016, the brother of Babua alias Chandrashekhar Gupta, an illegal extortionist, was murdered in Mumbai. Chandrashekhar felt that his brother had been murdered by Balram Gupta. Babua alias Chandrashekhar gave Rs 3 lakh to Rajkumar alias Lala Kushwaha to avenge the murder of his brother from Balram Gupta.
After this, Rajkumar alias Lala Kushwaha, along with his associates, attacked Balram Gupta and his accompanying Rajkumar Gupta on 14 February 2021 in Moregaon, Mumbai, with a coconut-cutting weapon (Datia). The miscreants fled from the spot, mistaking both of them as dead.

Additional SP Vinod Kumar Singh said that Rajkumar alias Lala Kushwaha and Dheeraj Yadav were hiding around Varanasi since the Mumbai incident. When Mira Bhayander Vasai Virar Crime Branch came to know about this, the police officers there sought the cooperation of UP-STF for the arrest of both.
On this, Inspector Apollo Kumar Singh of Varanasi’s field unit of UP-STF was engaged for cooperation. With the help of surveillance, it is learned that Rajkumar and Dheeraj are coming to Sarnath area to meet an acquaintance on Thursday afternoon. On the basis of this information, both were arrested after siege.
