Istanbul, AP. Ahmed Nasser al-Raisi, the elected inspector general of the global police agency Interpol, was elected chairman on Thursday. It is worth noting that this decision was taken despite several allegations from right-wing organizations against this officer of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). General Nasser is accused of torturing the detainees. Major General Ahmed Nasser Al-Raisi is the Inspector General of the UAE Ministry of Interior.

Ahmed Nasser Al-Raisi was elected to a four-year term but has been accused by human rights organizations of physically and mentally tortured detainees in the UAE. Apart from taking bribe, he has also been accused of many other crimes.

The election of the chairman of Interpol was long overdue as the Chinese president of the body, Meng Hongwei, suddenly disappeared during a visit to China in 2018 in the middle of his four-year term. Now it is learned that the Chinese government has taken him captive and hence this post cannot be kept vacant. He has also been charged with bribery and other offences.

Al-Raisi has criminal cases registered against him in five countries, including France and Turkey. Interpol is headquartered in France and elections are being held in Turkey. This international agency also reported that Brazil’s Valdessi Energy was elected to the US for the post of vice president of the organization. While Garba Baba Omar of Nigeria has been elected for the post of Vice President of Africa.
