The Allahabad High Court on Monday transferred 619 judicial officers, including Varanasi judge Ravi Kumar Diwakar. It is noteworthy that Diwakar had directed the survey inside the Gyanvapi Mosque in Varanasi. These judicial officers are posted in different districts of the state. In a notification issued by the Registrar General of the High Court on Monday, June 20, all the judicial officers transferred in pursuance of the court’s order have been asked to hand over their charge on July 4, 2022.
A total of 619 judicial officers have been transferred which includes 213 Civil Judge (Junior Division) cadre, 285 Additional District and Sessions Judge cadre and 121 Civil Judge (Senior Division). The judicial officers transferred include Varanasi Civil Judge (Senior Division) Ravi Kumar Diwakar who had appointed a commission to survey the Gyanvapi mosque complex and ordered the sealing of the site where the mosque was allegedly located. Shivling was found. Diwakar has been transferred from Varanasi to Bareilly District Court.
It is noteworthy that Diwakar had ordered a survey of the Gyanvapi Masjid in April 2022 on petitions filed by five women. These women had sought permission to worship in a Hindu temple behind the western wall of the Gyanvapi mosque.
On May 16, Diwakar’s court was told that the Advocate Commissioner had found a Shivling inside the Gyanvapi Masjid premises during a survey. On this, the judge ordered the sealing of the area concerned. After this, while ordering the survey of Gyanvapi Masjid to continue, he had expressed concern regarding his safety in his order. He also wrote to the Uttar Pradesh government earlier this month after receiving a threatening letter from registered post.
