The Uttar Pradesh government has fired 1,332 employees of the department working on contracts amid the strike by the electricity department. At the same time, the agitating leaders have issued a statement warning that if someone from the department is fired or arrested, then the symbolic strike of 72 hours will turn into an indefinite strike. Meanwhile, according to information received from Ballia, the district administration has lodged an FIR on Saturday against two supervisors who were found absent despite being posted at the power station.

Electricity Minister Sharma had said during the day that outsourcing companies have been asked to appoint new people from tomorrow in place of the dismissed personnel. He said that an FIR is being lodged against 22 leaders of ‘Vidyut Karmachari Sangharsh Samiti’ and action will be taken against them under ESMA. He said that some of them are being suspended.

Uttar Pradesh’s electrical workers are on strike for three days from 10 pm on Thursday night regarding the selection of chairman and managing director in power companies and some other issues.

Speaking to reporters today, Sharma had said, “Today it has been decided to initiate FIR against 22 personnel of the department under the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA). Some of these people have also been suspended. Apart from this, instructions have been given to register an FIR against those who damage government property and obstruct government work. Till now FIR has been registered against 29 such people.

He had told, “In the last 24 hours, the services of 1,332 personnel working on contract have been terminated. I request all the contract workers to report for duty within four hours, by 6 pm, failing which they will be dismissed tonight itself.

He told that outsourcing companies have been asked to take the list of children who have passed the examination from ITI, Polytechnic and Engineering institutions and recruit them as apprentices in place of the dismissed workers.

On the other hand, when asked Shailendra Dubey, convenor of Vidyut Karmachari Sanyukta Sangharsh Samiti, how many people are working on contract in the department, he told that the number of such workers in the state is about 70 thousand.

He claimed that the strike by electricity workers has severely affected power supply in some parts of the state.

The Energy Minister had said in the evening that continuous efforts are being made to hold talks with the striking workers of the Electricity Department. The doors of dialogue are open.

The state-wide strike of electricity workers on the call of Vidyut Karmachari Samyukta Sangharsh Samiti, Uttar Pradesh, continued for the second day today.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the leaders of Vidyut Karmachari Sanyukta Sangharsh Samiti, it has been warned that if peacefully agitating electricians are arrested or dismissed, then all electrical workers, junior engineers of energy corporations will be punished. He said in a warning tone, “The electricians are peacefully conducting a 72-hour symbolic strike, but due to the said repressive measures, this strike can turn into an indefinite strike and a jail bharo movement.”

On the other hand, according to the information received from Ballia, the district administration has today filed a nominated case against two supervisors for being found absent despite being posted at the power station.

According to the statement issued by the government on Saturday, District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar and Superintendent of Police Raj Karan Nayyar inspected the civil line power house of the district headquarters, transformer in residential colony Bahadur, 33/11 KV power sub-station Vishunipur, 33/11 KV Hanumanganj and Sukhpura.
