This will be the second international airport in the National Capital Territory of Delhi. This will help in reducing the pressure at Indira Gandhi International Airport. It is strategically located and will serve the urban population as well as neighboring areas including Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Agra, Faridabad. According to the information given by the PMO, Jewar Airport will become the gateway of logistics to North India. With its sheer scale and capacity, this airport will change the landscape of Uttar Pradesh.
What will be the specialty of this airport
According to the PMO, this will be the first airport in India where emissions will be net zero. A dedicated plot has been earmarked for the airport where the trees to be removed from the project site will be planted. In this way it will be given the form of a jungle park. Nature will be taken care of during the development of Jewar Airport. In addition, for the first time, an airport is envisaged in India to have an integrated multi-modal cargo hub and the focus is on reducing logistic costs and time.
Jewar Airport will increase connectivity
A Ground Transportation Center will be developed at the airport, which will have a multi-modal transit centre. Apart from this, there will be stations of metro and high speed railways, taxi, bus service and private vehicle parking facility will be available. In this way, this airport will be able to be directly connected by road, rail and metro. Noida and Delhi will be connected through seamless Metro service.

All nearby major routes and highways, such as Yamuna Expressway, Western Peripheral Expressway, Eastern Peripheral Expressway, Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and others will also be connected to the airport. There is also a plan to connect this airport with the proposed Delhi-Varanasi High Speed Rail, due to which the journey between Delhi and the airport will be just 21 minutes.
The airport will also have excellent MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhauling) service. There will be a facility to park the aircraft near the terminal, so that the air services will be able to operate domestic and international flights from the same location. Due to this, airplanes will be operational at the airport faster and the movement of passengers will also be possible smooth and fast.
This will be the cost of the airport
The first phase of the airport is being developed at a cost of over Rs 10,050 crore. It is spread over more than 1300 hectares. Once the first phase is completed, the airport’s capacity will be to serve 12 million passengers annually. The work on the first phase of the airport is targeted to be completed by 2024. It will be executed by international bidder Zurich Airport International AG. The field work of the first phase, i.e. land acquisition and rehabilitation of the affected families, has been completed.
