President Joe Biden said on Thursday that the US is nominating Indian-American business magnate Ajay Banga to lead the World Bank. President Biden said in the statement, “Ajay is uniquely suited to lead the World Bank at this important moment in history.”
Banga, 63, is currently the Vice Chairman of General Atlantic. Prior to this, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Mastercard.
Biden said, “Ajay has spent more than three decades building and managing successful, global companies. These are the companies that create jobs and bring investment into developing economies….”
He has a proven track record of partnering with global leaders around the world to manage people and systems and deliver results.
Banga was awarded the Padma Shri in 2016.
