legend of uttana ekadashi

Ekadashi is explained in detail in Padma Purana. Legend has it that once Dharmaraja Yudhishthira expressed his desire to know about the story of Ekadashi from Lord Shri Krishna. At the same time Lord Krishna said – O Dharmaraja! In the golden age, a demon named Mur defeated the gods and took control of heaven. There was an outcry in the three worlds. The gods and the sages reached Mahadev with their agony.

Lord Shiva said – The solution to this problem is with Lord Vishnu. So we have to go to them. Thereafter, all the deities reached Lord Shri Hari Vishnu ji and apprised him of the situation. Later, Lord Shri Hari Vishnu killed hundreds of generals of Asura Mur and went to Badrikashram for rest. Hearing the news of the killing of the generals, Mura got angry and reached Badrikashram.

At the same time a girl child was born from the body of Lord Shri Hari Vishnu. Then there was a fierce battle between the girl and the demon Mur. In this battle, the girl killed the demon Mur. When Lord Shri Hari Vishnu awakened from his sleep, pleased with the work of the girl, he addressed the girl in the name of Ekadashi and called the date of Ekadashi dear. Then the deities worshiped the girl. Since time immemorial, the worship of Lord Shri Hari Vishnu is performed on the day of Ekadashi.
