Along with this, Somvati Amavasya 2022 is also falling on this day. It is believed that this time a special coincidence of Somvati Amavasya and Vat Savitri Vrat is being made. Vat Savitri Vrat is observed in North India from Trayodashi Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Jyeshtha month to Amavasya. Whereas in South India, Vat Savitri fast is kept between the full moon day from Trayodashi Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha month. This year Vat Savitri Vrat will be observed on 30th May 2022. This Somvati Amavasya will be the last Somvati Amavasya of the year 2022. It is believed that there is a special coincidence of Somvati Amavasya and Vat Savitri fast.
Significance of Somvati Amavasya
Somvati Amavasya has special significance in Hinduism. The special importance of bathing and donating in the Ganges river on this day has been told. Along with this, there is also a tradition of giving water to the Sun after bathing on this day. It is said that donating on this day brings merit. According to Hindu scriptures, the day of Amavasya is dedicated to the ancestors. It is believed that by offering prayers to the ancestors, Pitra Dosh ends.
