Apple gardeners hope for PM’s visit

In the election year, the people of the state have many hopes from the Prime Minister’s visit to Mandi. Especially to the apple growers, because the gardeners have been waiting for the fulfillment of the promise of increasing the import duty for 8 years. Modi had made a promise in the Sujanpur rally before becoming the Prime Minister in 2014, but till date it has not been fulfilled. This has put Himachal’s apple industry worth Rs 5000 crore in trouble. Due to the import being in bulk, the gardeners of the state are not getting the fair price of apples. In such a situation, the gardeners have high hopes from the Prime Minister’s visit tomorrow.

Fulfill your promise PM: Bisht

President of Progressive Growers Association Lokendra Bisht said that Prime Minister Modi has come to Himachal many times before, but every time the gardener is disappointed. This time the Prime Minister is requested to fulfill the promise of increasing the import duty on apples. He has also urged for reducing the GST levied on cartons and giving subsidy for small cold stores.

Hope to take it off the ground with NH

economic package expected

Since the implementation of GST in the country, Himachal was getting an amount of more than 3000 crores every year, which has been stopped in the month of June this year. The state is hoping to continue this]as Himachal has limited means of income. Due to this the debt burden on the state is increasing.

Himachal has got a debt of about 65,000 crores, while the liability of employees and pensioners of more than 6000 crores is still outstanding. In such a situation, Himachal is expecting an economic package from the Center in the election year.
