New Delhi, Online Desk. Former Indian cricket team batsman VVS Laxman slammed Team India’s stand-in Ajinkya Rahane for his shot selection in the first innings of the Kanpur Test match. Laxman questioned the kind of innings he played on the delivery of Kyle Jamieson’s delivery to Rahane in the first innings of the first Test. Rahane has not been able to perform very well in consecutive Test matches for some time now. India has scored just 109 runs in the last 7 innings of Test cricket.

Talking on Star Sports, Laxman said what Jamieson did as soon as Rahane came to the crease. That shot went for the pitch ball and Rahane had only one option to play it which was the pull shot. It was a smooth shot, but he got out. In places like South Africa or Australia, even if the ball does not have much width due to the bounce, it is okay to play it outside the line. You cannot play the ball in a place like Kanpur where there is no bounce at all. You have to play with the full face of the bat. You cannot play with the angle of the bat.

Let us tell you that before being dismissed in the first innings of the Kanpur Test match, Rahane looked comfortable, but he got out after playing a wrong shot off Jamieson. Rahane had scored 35 runs in this match and a ball from Jamieson hit the stumps taking the edge of his bat. Rahane is captaining in place of Kohli in the Kanpur Test match and in this match, the Indian team scored 258 runs at the loss of four wickets on the first day.
