There are some hurdles at this time regarding 5G rollout in India. For example, the per capita fiber kilometer ratio in India is currently low. Regarding this, NDTV questioned why it is so important for us to improve it. In response, Deloitte India’s CEO-designate Romal Shetty said that unless you have better wireless technology and if you don’t have the entire infrastructure, you can’t really rollout 5G. He said that an important part of 5G is the business model. The most important part of 3G or 4G was actually connectivity. But enabling the business model has become very difficult.

For example, if it is to make a smart factory, then you cannot do this on 4G platform. You’ll probably need broadband access for this. That’s why it is necessary to be 5G enabled. The true potential of the 5G rollout can be realized only if connectivity across the country with fiber improves, so it is extremely important.

Still many people in India want basic phone they don’t want smart phone. It is also related to literacy somewhere. Regarding this kind of thing, Romal Shetty said that we already have 350 to 400 million smartphones in the country. It is believed that in 2026 this figure will be of one billion smartphones. Along with this, many special features have come in feature phones today.

If you see all our covid programs which were run across the country, it was run on WhatsApp based platform. This required slightly more bandwidth than what a feature phone could usually do. Today, digital technology is reaching every house in the whole country, which is a record in itself. Along with this, he said that the world’s largest 5G rollout has taken place in India.
