The pair of Indian table tennis players Manika Batra and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran has achieved a new feat. The pair has made a big jump in the World Rankings released after their recent victory at the WTT Contender event in Nova Gorica, Slovenia.

Table tennis player Sathiyan Gnanasekaran shared the joy of his achievement on his Twitter handle. Gnanasekaran celebrated the achievement of this record with his partner Manika Batra. He wrote, “New breakthrough in career. 5th world ranking in mixed doubles with Manika Batra. Which Indian pair got the highest ranking in mixed doubles. Breaking into world’s top-5 ranking is a dream come true moment, It is a milestone towards our goal of reaching the top and winning an Olympic medal.”

Individually, Sathiyan and Batra are the highest-ranked table tennis players in the country. While Sathiyan is ranked 39th in men’s singles and Batra is 44th in women’s singles in the country.

Team India ended their campaign with a medal at the WTT Contender event in Nova Gorica, Slovenia. Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Manika Batra won the silver medal after losing in the final of the mixed doubles. The Indian pair lost the match against Korea’s Lim Jonghoon and Shin Yubin. India lost the match 11-7, 11-7, 11-5. Apart from winning the silver in the Slovenia Challenger, Sathiyan and Manika put up impressive performances in Budapest and Doha.

The Indian pair had finished runner-up in the 2022 WTT Doha. He had been a leading contender for the WTT last year in Budapest, Hungary. The best ever ranking for an Indian table tennis pair was achieved by women’s doubles pair Manika Batra and Archana Kamath when they were ranked world number four earlier this year.
