Yashwant Sinha, who was a cabinet minister in the Atal government, has been made the opposition’s presidential candidate. The decision was taken at a meeting of opposition parties held at Sharad Pawar’s house on Tuesday. Now he will face NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu.

In 1964, Bihar CM Mahamaya started questioning Yashwant in front of the crowd.
Yashwant Sinha got 12th rank across the country in the 1960 IAS exam. After initial training, he was made DC in Santhal Pargana of Bihar. DC means District Collector. The year was 1964. The then Chief Minister of Bihar Mahamaya Prasad Sinha had gone on a visit to Santhal Pargana.

During this time something happened that Yashwant Sinha came into the limelight. Actually, people complained against the officials to the CM. After this, he started questioning Chief Minister Yashwant Sinha in front of the crowd. Yashwant Sinha was troubled by the repeated questions.

When Irrigation Minister showed attitude in front of CM, Yashwant got crowded with Chief Minister
During this Yashwant Sinha was trying to please the CM with his answer. Then the Irrigation Minister who came with the CM got very upset on him. After this, Sinha looked at Chief Minister Mahamaya Prasad and said that Sir, I am not used to such behavior.

Hearing this answer of Yashwant, the Chief Minister took him to a room. In front of the SP and DIG there, Mahamaya Prasad told them that you should not have behaved like this with the minister. After this Yashwant said that even your minister should not have treated me like this.

Hearing this answer of Sinha, Mahamaya Prasad got angry that how did you dare to talk to the Chief Minister like this? Also he told IAS Sinha that you should find another job.

On hearing this, Yashwant Sinha said to Mahamaya Prasad, ‘Sir, you cannot become an IAS, but I can become the Chief Minister one day.’

Was made a minister of state instead of cabinet, left the post in 10 seconds
Very impressed with JP i.e. Jayaprakash Narayan, Yashwant Sinha left the job of IAS 12 years before retirement. After a few months, he joined the Janata Dal and became close to Chandrashekhar. When VP Singh became the Prime Minister of the country in 1989 amid the ruckus over the Bofors scam, he offered to make Yashwant a minister of state.

The then cabinet secretary TN Session also handed over the letter to Yashwant to be made a minister, but within 10 seconds he had turned down the post. Actually, Sinha wanted to become a cabinet minister. Sinha then said that in view of his seniority and work in the election campaign, VP Singh has done injustice to him by giving him the post of Minister of State.

VP Singh’s government lasted 343 days. After this, when Chandrashekhar became the PM in November 1990, he made Sinha the Finance Minister. This government also lasted only 223 days. A few days after the fall of the government, Yashwant Sinha joined the BJP. He also became the Finance Minister and Foreign Minister in the Atal Government.

Yashwant Sinha has been the Minister of External Affairs and Finance in the government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.  In 2018, he resigned from the BJP.

Yashwant Sinha had reached the Supreme Court against the Modi government
Date 24 October 2018. Yashwant Sinha, along with Arun Shourie and lawyer Prashant Bhushan, who were among the top BJP leaders, reached the Supreme Court to file a case against the Modi government. The trio filed a petition in the court alleging corruption in the Rafale deal during the Modi government.

Along with this, there was a demand to register a case in the CBI against the Modi government in the Rafale case. Everyone was surprised to see this rebellious attitude of Yashwant Sinha.
